Web Page Guidelines

Ideas for Websites

  1. Keep some similarity in the pages.
    1. People feel more comfortable with pages with similar look and feel. Changing the look of every page becomes distracting.
    2. Exceptions to this: Kids and Youth sections. They enjoy more variety in the things they see.
  2. Watch the use of different fonts
    1. Face it: Am I Your Type? (Link to ideas about fonts etc)
    2. Keep different fonts on one page to a minimum. Recommend using Verdana or Arial fonts and don’t make the entire page handwriting italics (this might work on printed text, but is hard to read on a computer screen).
  3. Don’t put personal information on website without approval of the person. This includes:
    1. Address (identity theft issues)
    2. Phone Number (annoyance/identity theft issues)
    3. Email address (these can be pulled from web pages via automated methods and added to junk email lists)
    4. Health or vacation issues (if con artists/crooks know you are in the hospital or on vacation, that might make you a better candidate
